In India, Government of India and State governments are the controlling authorities on Ayurveda education, practice and preparation of Ayurveda medicines and selling the Ayurveda medicines through pharmacy outlets.

The Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi under the Central government Ministry of Health is framing rules on Ayurveda medical education in India and Dept of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) Govt. Of India, Ministry or Health New Delhi, is overall controlling on Drug manufacturing, selling of Ayurveda medicines and these rules are governed by Drugs and Cosmotic Rules 1949 and subsequent update rules.
